WASHINGTON?Wilma Jean (Grimes) Gaumer, 89, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Winchester Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, MA. She was born on September 12, 1923 in Oakville, Iowa to Ervin Andrew and Lora Belle (King) Grimes. Wilma married Ralph Edward Gaumer on March 2, 1946 in Peoria. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Randy Lou; her sisters, Doris (Grimes) Brockert and Maye (Grimes) Heiniger and her brothers, Louis Grimes and Harold Grimes. Among those surviving Wilma are three sons, Gary (Cinda) of Winchester, MA, Daniel (Karen) of Decatur, IL and Richard (Paula) of Sturgeon Bay, WI. She is also grandmother to nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Wilma graduated from Oakville High School in Iowa. Prior to marriage she worked for the General Telephone Company in Peoria. Wilma and Ralph moved to Washington from Peoria in 1950. They were active members of the First United Methodist Church. An avid reader her whole life, she and Ralph volunteered to help with hundreds of receptions at the church, where she was also involved with many other social and fundraising activities. Wilma also volunteered at the Washington Public Schools and was den mother in the Cub Scout program. Funeral services for Wilma will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Tom Goodell officiating. Visitation will be half hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Mason-White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
