William S. "Bill" Brunner, 95, of Metamora, IL, formerly of Peoria, IL, passed away at 6:05 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at his residence at Snyder Village in Metamora.
He was born on May 22, 1926, in Peoria, IL, to Samuel R. and Elizabeth M. (Folkers) Brunner. He married Glennis A. McNaught on November 26, 1953 in Kewanee, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Glennis of Metamora; three daughters, Elizabeth (David) Kacynski of Nashville, TN, Suzanne (Gregg) Hidden of Peoria, and Janet (Steven) Slape of Phoenix, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Jake, Mike, and Andrew Kacynski, Alison and Mitchell Hidden, and Molly, Heather, and Billy Slape; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Hillig of Bartonville; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Brunner of Morton. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Daniel Brunner, great-granddaughter, Amy Wallace, brother, Gary Brunner, and brother-in-law, Roland Hillig.
Bill was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran, serving aboard the U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard, an aircraft carrier that was a part of Bull Halsey's 3rd Fleet in the Pacific Theatre. He graduated from Peoria Manual High School and from Bradley University with a bachelor and masters degrees in Education. Bill was a teacher for over thirty years and was also involved with coaching and sports officiating. He retired from Peoria School District in 1983, with most of his teaching done at Rolling Acres School. After his retirement, he worked for Libby's in Morton, IL for six years.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and was active in many areas of church life. He assisted in building a new Presbyterian church in Morton when a dairy barn was converted into a beautiful church. Bill and Glennis joined Willow Hill United Methodist Church when they moved to Snyder Village. He was a volunteer "red coat" at Methodist Hospital for 17 years.
Bill loved his family and was so proud of what was accomplished by everyone. He and Glennis have lived at Snyder Village and have been so happy there, with all the friends they have met and the staff that works there.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Pastor Nicole Cox officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until service time, also on Saturday at the funeral home. A private family graveside service to follow in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria with military rites accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Willow Hill United Methodist Church, 304 East Far Hills Drive, East Peoria, IL 61611 or to the Snyder Village Residents in Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
