Wilbur "Wil" Rohman Obituary

Wilbur A. “Wil” Rohman, 89, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 9:00 pm on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Snyder Village in Metamora.

He was born on June 2, 1933, in Metamora, IL, to Lawrence and Matilda (Fuchs) Rohman. He married Loyela Ferne Parr on November 22, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora. She passed away on March 19, 2007. He then married Jeree Highfill on February 20, 2010.

Surviving are his wife, Jeree of Spring Bay, IL; three sons, David (Mary Beth) Rohman of Eloy, AZ, Keith (Georgann) Rohman of Metamora, and Mark (Sue) Rohman of Germantown Hills, IL; three daughters, Christina (Dennis) Miller of Germantown Hills, Michelle (Gerald) Otten, Jr. of Washington, IL, and Milissa (Kelly) Kanaga of Metamora; twelve grandchildren, Adam (Terra) Rohman, Clint (Carol) Rohman, Rachel (Scott) Fitzgerald, Ryan (Stacey) Rohman, Samantha (Derek) Dexter, Joshua (Colleen) Rohman, Rebecca Miller, Catrina (Nate) Hartmann, Kaitlyn Otten, Gerald Otten III, Kody (Beth) Kanaga, and Kassandra (William) Kostock; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Daniel Rohman, and sister Lois Rohman.

Wil worked as a circulation manager for the Peoria Journal Star. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora. He was committed to his faith and family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend. To know him was to love him, he never met a stranger and had no enemies. He gained the respect of all who knew him, and he was the person that everyone went to for advice. He always put others first.

Wil was actively involved as a Boy Scout Leader, Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and Independent Order of the Foresters. No one who met Wil will forget his compassions for non-work activities such as camping, playing cards, dancing, playing bingo, woodworking, country music, and collecting albums.

While at Snyder Village he made a lot of friends and was always making people laugh. He always looked forward to the special delivery of his daily caramel shakes.

There is never a “Wil” story that does not contain one of his corny jokes. If you asked him how he was feeling, his response never faltered. Dad will forever be “Fit as a Fiddle, but his G-string is out of tune.”

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Eric Bolek officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until mass time, also on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Metamora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Snyder Village Activity Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
