Wallace J. "Wally" King, 91, of Washington, IL passed away Monday, December 25, 2017, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
Wally was born on May 15, 1926, in Washington, IL, son of the late John and Mary Ganzhorn King. He married Evelyn "Evey" Brecklin on August 13, 1950 in Washington and she passed away September 25, 2012 in Morton. He was also preceded in death by one brother Donald L. King.
Surviving are two daughters Pam (Nick) Ripley and Lori (the late Paul) Tigue and one son Dave (Char) King all of Washington. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren Rachel McMenimen, Ryan (Bonnie Maloney) King, Rachel (Chad) Kuehnl, Sarah (Levi) Banks, Gavin (Melissa) Ripley, Kristin (Christopher) Todd, Brian (Hailey) Tigue and Kiley (Nick) Smith.
Further surviving, are 12 great grandchildren Emily, Mason, Jacob, Aletheia, Reagan, Micah, Brooklynn, Nolan, Bradley, Keira, Bristol and Channing along with one niece Linda Vreeland.
He was the owner and operator of Wally King Construction in Washington for 40 years, after which, Wally was the building inspector for the City of Washington from 1995 until his retirement in 2017.
Wally was a proud WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1947. A highlight for Wally, was to be a part of the Greater Peoria Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on June 13, 2017, accompanied by his daughter Pam.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 100, VFW Post 9016 all in Washington, Protective Officials Conference, International Association of Electrical Inspectors and International Code Council.
Wally enjoyed many outdoor activities especially hunting and fishing and was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Wally experienced a life well lived and was an honorable man who was loved and respected by many. He had a deep love of his family who knew just how to make him smile and laugh. He will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff of OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home for their professional and compassionate care of Wally for the past 3 ½ weeks. Also, the family greatly appreciates the kind people at the City of Washington who were like family to Wally.
Funeral Services for Wally will be 10:00am, Saturday, December 30, 2017, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington. Pastor Dick Hanson will officiate. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2017, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington and on Saturday from 9:00am until 9:45am at the church.
