Vernice A. “Vern” Iunker, 72, of Washburn, IL, passed away at 1:15 am on Friday, March 11, 2022, at the Lacon Rehab and Nursing in Lacon, IL.
She was born on April 10, 1949, in Washington, IL, to Lloyd and Beverly (Raney) Knoll. She married Franklin E. Lynch on August 12, 1968 and they later divorced. She then married John E. Iunker on June 3, 1989 in Washburn, IL. He passed away on December 21, 2000.
Surviving are her daughter, Audrey (Mike) Haney of Mackinaw, IL; son, John (Marty) Lynch of Farmington, MO; daughter, Kimberly (Jim) Wegstein of Washburn; grandchildren, Rachel Frank, Max Haney, Calvin (Bri) Lynch, Drew Lynch, Devin (Nick) Grebner, Dustin Rich, Dillon Wegstein, and Kaylee Wegstein; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, John Knoll of Valpariso, IN and Larry Knoll of Lacon; and dear friend, Lloyd Crombie. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gary Knoll, and grandson Derek Lynch.
Vern graduated from LowPoint-Washburn High School. She began her working career at Jack’s Restaurant and Bowling Alley in Washburn. Throughout the years, she worked at State Farm, Lum’s, and other businesses. While her children were young, she provided child care for several children in her home. She retired from Snyder Village in Metamora where she was the laundry director.
Vern was proud to be a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served in a variety of roles, including President. Vern also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, working crossword puzzles, and visiting Alaska, which she was fortunate to do twice.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Reverend Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Washburn Baptist Cemetery.
