Velma Alice Wernsman, 99, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away at 3:55 pm on Friday, January 22, 2021, at Apostolic Christian Home-Eureka. She was born on September 30, 1921, in Jacksonville, IL, to George M. and Cora P. (Smith) Brunk. She married Joseph Edward Wernsman on June 1, 1940 in Metamora, IL. He passed away on August 12, 1998.
Surviving are her two sons, Joe (Kathy) Wernsman of Germantown Hills and Bill (Barbara) Wernsman of Jacksonville, IL; eleven grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters Loraine Wernsman and Donna Bachman, granddaughter Laura Wernsman, great-grandchild Alex, great-great-grandchild Raylin, four sisters, and three brothers.
Velma was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Metamora and their Altar Rosary Society and former captain of the women’s bowling league in East Peoria. She was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at St. Mary of Lourdes Cemetery with Father Greg Jozefiak officiating.
