Stephen P. Gasser, 77, of Mackinaw, formerly of Washington, passed away at 2:51 am Thursday, May 19, 2022, at his residence. He was born June 19, 1944, in St. Louis, MO, to Robert and Jane Becker Gasser. He married Susan L. Stear on October 19, 2001, in Pekin, IL.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, Benjamin (Renee) Gasser of Tremont and Matthew Gasser of Washington; one daughter Lisa (Jihad) Khoury of Dubai, UAE. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren: one brother Christopher (Cindy) Gasser of Washington, and two sisters, Linda (Gail) Springer and Pamela West, both of Tremont. His parents and one brother-in-law, Ed West, preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Effingham High School. After graduation, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy on October 25, 1963, and righteously served his country serving in the Vietnam Conflict before his honorable discharge on October 24, 1969.
He worked for Spurgeon Construction for over 45 years. Steve enjoyed many things during his life. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals and Bradley Braves, and especially relished spending time with his family, who will miss him dearly.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, May 23, 2022, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Dick Hanson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington with Military Honors.
