Roger A. Rich of Washington, Illinois passed away suddenly after a short bout of cancer at Richard Owens Hospice Center on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:50 am. Roger was born in Hopedale, Illinois on June 19, 1959 to Judy Taylor Rich and Bill Rich of Eureka, IL. Roger married his best friend, Amy J. Mauschbaugh on September 16, 1995 at St. Mark?s Lutheran Church, Washington, IL. Roger is also survived by his daughter, Hannah Rich of Washington, Illinois and his beloved dog, Lady. Roger is survived by his parents, siblings Cynthia Acevedo, Mark (Shari) Rich, Susan (Kurt) Kamp, and Crystal Gerard. Roger is also survived by his mother-in-law, Beverly Mauschbaugh and her children, Lori (Mark) Weston, Andy (Missy) Mauschbaugh, and Paul (Dawn) Mauschbaugh and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Roger worked for many years for two of his uncles, GA Rich and Dick Rich, in the plumbing business. Roger?s career took him to Morton Metalcraft for 19 years, Big R for 1 year and concluded at Otto Baum in Morton. Roger graduated in 1978 from DeeMack High school where he played on the state football team. Roger was the recipient of the American Legion Award. Roger spent considerable time doing volunteer work, helping his friends with plumbing projects including Debolt Brothers in Deer Creek, and as a member of the Deer Creek Jaycees. Roger was instrumental in raising funds through the Jaycees for fireworks in Deer Creek. Roger?s volunteer work continued through St. Mark?s Lutheran Church in Washington, where he served on the building committee for a 3.2 million dollar addition and as an active member of the Property Committee. Roger also contributed significant hours to the 12th Man Washington football organization, helping build the Panther Plex facility. Roger was proud of becoming a baptized member of St. Mark?s Lutheran Church as an adult. In Roger?s spare time he loved family vacations, family outings, and Sunday morning golf outings with the boys. Roger?s family would like to thank the health care providers of the Oncology Unit at Methodist Hospital and Dr. Olsson?s care at the Richard Owens Hospice Center. A celebration of Roger?s life will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark?s Lutheran Church with Pastor John Bates officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to services on Friday. Cremation rites will be accorded following services on Friday and Mason-White Funeral Home is assisting the family in arrangements. In lieu of flowers, an account has been established at Heartland Bank for Medical Expenses and Hannah?s College Educational Fund.
