Richard "Dick" Olaf Matson

Richard O. "Dick" Matson, 86, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 11:10 pm on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born on October 15, 1935, in Peru, IL, to Clarence W. and Maybelle (Uhlich) Matson. He married Margaret H. Olson on April 22, 1956, in Buda, IL. She passed away on June 17, 2021.

Surviving are his two children, Kenneth (Linda Gehrig) Matson of Germantown Hills and Dale (Sue) Matson of Metamora; three grandchildren, Krysta (Wes) Brackett and Drew (Ashley) Matson, both of Hanna City, IL, and Taylor (Austin) Miller of Germantown Hills; three great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Josie Matson and Adeline Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dick was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was the owner/operator of Dick Standard in Metamora starting in 1972 and then became the owner/operator of the Shell Gas Station in Metamora, retiring in October, 2000. Dick was a member of Christian Union Church in Metamora, Nash Car Club of America, DeSoto Motor Cars of Illinois, Metamora American Legion Post 89, and past member of the Metamora Fire Department.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Christian Union Church with Pastor Gary Salm officiating and military rites accorded. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until service time on Saturday at the church. Burial of Ashes will be held at a later time in Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora.
