Richard Leitner Obituary

Richard Lee Leitner, 83, of Bay View Gardens, IL passed away at his home on February 10, 2024, surrounded by his family. Richard was born January 23, 1941, in Pekin, IL, to the late Richard H. and Margaret (Zahner) Leitner. He married Janet Schaer in Lewistown, IL, on July 2, 1959.

His wife survives him; their children Richard Dale (Tracy) Leitner and Gale (Rick) Allen. Grandsons Richard Justin, Joshua Leitner, Dylan Allen, and great-grandchildren Emily, Braxtyn, Brysyn, and Braydyn Leitner. Also surviving is one sister, Margaret (Leitner) Bradshaw.

Richard dedicated 47 years of his life to United Facilities in East Peoria, where he worked as a mechanic. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family and friends. He embodied hard work and perseverance, and his colleagues will remember him as a man who could always be relied upon, no matter the task.

An avid outdoorsman, Richard found joy in the simplicity of nature. He was happiest when camping under the stars, hunting in the quiet of the dawn, or tending to his garden with the patience and care he applied to all aspects of his life. His love for NASCAR was undeniable, with Richard Petty holding a special place in his heart as his favorite driver.

Music was another of Richard's passions, and he could often be found humming along to the tunes of Alan Jackson, particularly his Christian music albums. His love for the Chicago Cubs was as steadfast as his character, and he followed their games with an unwavering spirit that inspired those around him.

Richard's sense of humor, intelligence, and wisdom guided the lives of those he touched. He was a man who cherished every anniversary, marking each year with gratitude and love.
