Rev. John D. Senter, age 90, of Metamora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Snyder Village Health Center. He was baptized on February 21, 1932.
He was born on March 29, 1931, in Fredericktown, MO, to Roy and Ada (Hedrick) Senter. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Phillip and Robert, and sisters Mary, Catherine (Reynolds), and Beverly (Yost). He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Lois (Bierbaum) Senter on July 3, 2011. They were married in Litchfield, IL on June 26, 1954.
He is survived by his sons David Christian of Eureka, MO and David Allan of Streator, IL; daughters Anne of West Hollywood, CA, Maria (Payne) of Oglesby, IL, and Ellen (Bugaieski) of East Peoria, IL; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Paula Grindstaff; and brother, Stanley Senter.
Rev. Senter graduated from Concordia Seminary in 1956 and served 38 years as a Missouri Synod Lutheran pastor. He served congregations in Fort Benton, Geraldine, and Butte, Montana from 1956-1968. He was called to Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leslie, MO and served there from 1968-1977. He served Zion Lutheran Church, in Wenona, and St. Paul’s, in Varna, IL, from 1977 until his retirement in 1994.
In retirement he enjoyed golf (walk and talk), reading, visiting, Bible study, canoeing, and learning to cook.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Washington, IL with Reverend Ron Miller officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service on Thursday at the church. A graveside burial will follow at 3:00 pm on Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield, IL.
