Peggy Murphy Obituary

Peggy H. Murphy, 84 years old, passed away on November 27, 2020, at her daughter's home in Peoria, surrounded by family. 

On July 19, 1936, Peggy was born on a family farm in rural Georgia to the late Hoke & Annie Ruth Hammond. She had lived in Morton, Atlanta, GA, and Greensboro, GA. She married Lawrence Murphy in 1985. He preceded her in death in May 2018. She was also preceded by 2 Grandchildren: Savannah Davis and Sophia Mulloy. 

Peggy was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her 3 Children: Jim Oliver (Midori Clark)- Denver, CO, Jan (Patrick) Oliver Mulloy – Peoria, Julie Oliver Davis (Tom Limmer) - St. Louis; her 6 Grandchildren: Brett, Hannah (Chance Wessel), and Lauren Oliver, Olivia (Brian) Davis Hoium, Jarrad Davis, and Emma Mulloy; her Great-Grandchildren Norri Davis and Julian Hoium; and several Step-Children and Families. Peggy's sisters JoAn Hanes and Hokie Wright reside in Georgia, as did her sister Katherine Webb who recently passed. 

Peggy will be remembered for her Southern hospitality and warmth. She extended kindness and affection to all. Her hobbies included playing sudoku, crocheting, crafting, cooking, gardening, camping, and traveling to see family. She was loved by all who met her and made her family and friends always feel special. Her loving spirit and devotion to family will forever be remembered and missed. 

As a young woman living in Atlanta, GA., she worked in Banking. She became a full-time mother of 3 with her former spouse J. Smith Oliver, Sr. The family was transferred to Morton with Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1974. She later returned to banking, working for Morton Community Bank and then Sheridan Village Bank in Peoria. Peggy was a lifelong Methodist and was last a member of the Morton United Methodist Church. 

Thank you, OSF Hospice, for your outstanding compassion and care, and a special thanks to Dr. Takata-Rossi for over 35 years of devoted medical care. 

Peggy will return to Beaverdam on Lake Oconee for her final resting place. Cremation has been accorded. A private family burial service will be held at Walker's Methodist Church, Greensboro, GA., at a later date. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or Crittenton Centers.
