Nellie K. “Nel” Schertz, 99, of Metamora, IL passed away 9:48 am on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Carle Health-Proctor in Peoria, IL.
She was born on April 10, 1924 to Henry and Katie (Kennel) Reeb in Lowpoint, IL. She married Donald D. Schertz on April 28, 1946 and they were married for 64 years. He passed away on January 3, 2011.
Surviving are four children, Kathleen (Jimmy) Hamilton of Tupelo, MS, Donald (Cindy) Schertz of Carrollton, VA, Ronald (Cheryl) Schertz of Cranston, RI, and Richard (Carol) Schertz of Metamora; seven grandchildren, Brian (Ronnie) Hamilton, Mike (Ashley Henry) Hamilton, Matthew (Jen) Schertz, Melissa (Scott) Kayla, Jeff (Cassie) Schertz, Sylvia Schertz, and Kirsten (Matt) Hany; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Joshua Schertz, brothers John Reeb and Arthur Reeb, and sister Verna Bachman.
Nel worked at Chris Hoerr and Sons as an accounts payable supervisor for 27.5 years until her retirement. She was active in her church for many years and volunteered at the Et Cetera Shop in Eureka until she was 95.
Nel loved her family and had great interest in all her grandkids and great-grandkids’ activities. She liked to keep up with those activities and attend when possible. Nel enjoyed playing card games, scrabble, and crossword puzzles. She was artistic and had a natural talent for music, playing both piano and guitar. She shared her gift of music with those around her often.
The family is forever grateful for the love and care that she received at Snyder Village Assisted Living Memory Care. She was loved and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Christian Union Church in Metamora with Reverend Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until service time, also on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Hickory Point Cemetery in Metamora.
