Mary E. Kimpling, 91, of Washington, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.
On May 15, 1930, in Odell, IL, she was born to Charles and Zeta (Stewart) Schlobohm. Mary's family moved to Washington, Illinois, when she was a young girl. She attended the Washington schools graduating from Washington High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Kimpling, in Washington, Illinois, on December 10, 1950. He preceded her in death in 1994. Also preceding her were her parents, stepmother June, and brother Paul, three sisters-in-law, and four brothers-in-law.
Surviving are her four daughters, Kathy (Gary) Meister of Tremont, Nancy (Mark) Hodges of Washington, Karen (Mick) Blunier of Bartonville, and Carol Kimpling of Washington; 5 grandchildren, Shelbie (Jared) Bontemps, Natalie (Andrew) Setter, Jamie (Matt) Muller, AJ (Katie) Blunier, Robert Hodges (Melissa Schroeder); and nine great-grandchildren, Koralyn, Ty, Ella, Brynn, Halle, Sophia, Madden, Asher, and Gavin. Also surviving are 2 stepsisters, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary worked for over 60 years in the Kimpling family business, which began in 1925 as Modern Hardware. Mary and Bob guided the business from 1963 on as it evolved into Kimpling Plumbing & Heating, Ace Hardware, and Mary's Collectibles. With five generations of family members involved in its growth, Mary became its proud matriarch. Her ability to sell is well known throughout central Illinois, and you would find her working and selling at the store, day and night until November of 2018.
As a loving mother, Mary enjoyed spending time with her family traveling, camping, and dining out. She also liked spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren through family gatherings and sporting events. Sadly, those special days are gone, but now Mary has achieved her well-deserved peace. The Lord has taken her, and she will be with her loving husband, Bob "Always."
