M. Joyce Shane Obituary
Mary "Joyce" Shane, 88, of West Peoria, IL passed away at 10:29 PM on Monday, January 9, 2023, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
She was born on May 31, 1934 in Bradford, IL to Doyle and Margaret (Hannon) Johnston. She married Gary A. Shane on May 16, 1959. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1991.
Surviving are two daughters Annie (Karen Bushell) Shane of Gaithersburg, MD; Donna (Bryan) Klusman of West Peoria; two sons Michael Shane of West Peoria and Patrick Shane of Peoria; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Rosemary Szidon of Peoria, and Jane Anne Morrissey of Peoria.
She was preceded in death by her twin, M. Jean Panczak (2002), sisters Betty Phelps (2014), and Helen Crooks (2018); two grandchildren Jennifer Shane, on January 19, 2009, and ET1 Kevin S. Bushell on August 21, 2017.
Joyce worked as a teacher's aide for 20 plus years at various elementary schools within Peoria Public School District 150, and retired from Peoria High School. Joyce was an amazing mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She was a member of St. Anthony's church in Bartonville. In retirement she volunteered at various church activities. She will be most remembered for her great humor and love of sports.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 AM on Monday, January 16, 2023, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bartonville. Father Dave Heinz will celebrate. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until her time of service. Following her mass, cremation rites will be accorded and a burial of her remains will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at St. John's Cemetery in Bradford, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
