Laveta "Toots" Gertrude (Noe) Hagan

Laveta Gertrude “Toots” Hagan, 93, of Metamora, Illinois, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 10:10 pm at Snyder Village Health Center in Metamora.

She was born July 9, 1930, in Metamora, the daughter of Adolph and Elvina (Bockler) Noe. She married Earl Franklin Hagan, Jr on April 30, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora. He passed away on February 3, 2002.

Laveta is survived by her six children, Deborah Hagan Kunkle of Janesville, Wisconsin, Robert (Robin) Hagan of Roscoe, Illinois, Thomas (Jane) Hagan of Metamora, Kriste (Roger) Cantwell of Metamora, Sharon (Scott) Foiles of Metamora, and Nicole Hagan Rusk of Washington, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elberta Dusenberry of Metamora, and Mary Lee Noirot of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.

After graduating from Metamora High School in 1948, Laveta worked in East Peoria at Tazewell Savings and Loan. After her first child was born, she became a stay-at-home mom, which she loved, raising a family of six children, as well as helping care for grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years. While taking care of children, she did the bookkeeping for her husband’s business, Lindsay Water Conditioning, in the early years in Peoria until moving the family to Metamora. Laveta was a member and active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church and School in Metamora. She helped with school lunches, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and Laveta organized annual collections for St. Jude’s in Metamora for several years. Laveta, Earl, and the three older children operated the Metamora A&W Root Beer Stand for three years in the 1960s. Most of all she enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking, and being with family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Metamora, with Father Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, also Tuesday at the church. Graveside service will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Metamora with a meal to follow at Snyder Village in the SV Center.
