Larry Allen Sweet, 64, of Lexington, IL passed away at 11:07 pm on Friday, June 10, 2022 at the OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria with family members by his side.
Larry was born in Peoria, IL on July 20, 1957. He was the son of the late Jean and Donald Sweet Sr.
Larry had a lifelong connection with water. He grew up in Springbay, IL fishing, boating, and swimming in the Illinois River. Fishing remained one of his interests throughout his life and was a passion that he passed on to his kids and grandkids. Larry was a 1975 graduate of Metamora Township High School where he was also a conference champion wrestler.
Larry was renowned for his ability to fix anything mechanical/electrical, and also had a gift for designing and fabricating solutions to pretty much any problem. He loved using these skills to help family, friends, and neighbors. He was always patient and diligent in teaching what he had learned to his sons and grandchildren. Larry also utilized these skills while working for Caterpillar (Peoria), the Agricultural Utilization Laboratory (Peoria), PAL Health Technologies (Pekin), Greater Peoria Family YMCA, and various HVAC service companies.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Sweet, Jr. He is survived by his brother, Gary Sweet of Washington, IL and his sister, Debbie Plemmons of Springbay, IL. He is also survived by his sons Christopher (Cara) Sweet of Lexington, IL and Andrew (Heather) Sweet of Soddy Daisy, TN. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Jonah, Aven, Lorien, and Tristan.
At his request, all family, friends, and acquaintances who wish to celebrate Larry are welcome to attend a celebration of life that will be held on Sunday, July 31 from 1:00 - 6:00 PM at the East Port Banquet Center in East Peoria, 703 Mariners Way.
