L. Christine O'Rourke Obituary

L. Christine O’Rourke, age 73, born on August 31, 1946 in San Antonio, TX to John and Ruth (Guthrie) Prenzel passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of Friday, December 6, 2019. She is no longer in pain, but rejoices at the table of our Lord.

She is the loving and devoted mother of Laura (Steven) Anglin of Metamora, IL, Bridget (Scott) Kreiter of Sandwich, IL, and Denise (Corey) Baumgardt of Brooklyn Park, MN; and grandmother to Joshua, Madeline, Gabrielle, and Rebecca (Laura and Steve’s children), Brianna, Rex, Brock, and Brady (Bridget and Scott’s children), and Shiloh and Zachary (Denise’s children). Christine was known as ‘Grandma Sweet Treats’ to her one great-grandchild Felix (Joshua’s child).

Nancy (Phil) Rokicki of Harrison, TN and Mary Beth (Chuck) Smith of Rankin, IL called her sister. Several nieces and nephews, Michele (Terry) Diss, Lori (Kevin) Hoffman, Wade (Summer) Smith, D.J. Smith, and Matthew Smith, called her Auntie Chris.

Chris, affectionately known as Lollie in her youth, grew up on Military bases as her father, Major John Jack Prenzel, served in the United States Air Force. During her school years she lived with her Grandmother Piccola Guthrie on a farm in Sidell, IL. Christine attended different schools depending on where her father was stationed, but spent some years at Allerton Grade School, and graduated from ABL High School.

She was married in Calumet City, IL on October 7, 1967 to Gerald William O’Rourke. She spent the majority of her life as a stay at home mom, a priceless gift to her daughters. She sacrificed much to be able to educate her daughters. She lived simply and was always friendly and generous to others.

Later in life, she worked as an administrative assistant for IMC in Mundelein IL, the Peoria Park District, and Norscott in Peoria, IL.

Christine’s passion was her family and children. When she wasn’t spending time with her family, she could be found cheering on the Cubs, Bears, or watching tennis or any number of sports. She enjoyed movies and reading.

In 2013 she began to suffer from multiple health issues. She battled and fought the diseases that attacked her body. Throughout her struggle, she relied on her faith in Christ and always found something to be grateful for.  She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and goodness.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, 424 Lourdes Church Road, Germantown Hills, IL with Father Vien Van Do officiating.  Rosary will be held at 9:30 am with visitation to follow from 10:00 am until time of her service on Saturday at the church.  Inurnment of ashes will be held at a later date in Sidell, IL.
