Kathlene Smith

Kathlene E. Smith, 92, of Germantown Hills, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. She was born on March 24, 1922 in Galesburg, IL the daughter of Keth and Dora Schneider Sapp. She married Hildon Smith on May 4, 1942 in Florida. He passed away on December 21, 1976. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter Laura Wernsman, one great granddaughter Alexandra Weakley and one great-great grandson Raylan Jones as well as her parents. Surviving are three children Kathlene (Joseph) Wernsman of Germantown Hills, Hildon H. Smith of Chapel Hill, NC. and Mary Ellen (Terry) Smith of Peoria. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. One brother Keth (Merry) Sapp of East Lafayette, IN; two sisters Lillian Ripper, Dora Mae (Noble) Ensminger of Punta Gorda, FL. Further survive Kathlene. She was a homemaker. Kathlene enjoyed many things in life but especially loved spending time with her family. She was a very giving and compassionate mother and grandmother, great grandmother and will be missed every day. Funeral Services will be 11am Wednesday, April 23, 2014 with Chaplain Chuck Wilcox officiating at Mason Funeral Home in Germantown Hills. Visitation will be one-hour prior to her services. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice House.
