Joanne Hammer

On Monday, August 17, 2020, Joanne Hammer, a loving mother of three children, passed away at the age of 64. 

Joanne Marie McCreary was born on October 23, 1955, in Detroit, MI, to Robert and Georgeann Cripps McCreary.  Joanne married Ronald Ray Smith on June 9, 1989, in Monroe, MI. He died on January 3, 2002. She later married Gerald Hammer on January 10, 2003, and they were married until 2017. 

Joanne was preceded in death by her mother Georgeann, her father Robert, two brothers, Tony and Thomas McCreary, and one sister, Brenda McCreary.

She is survived by her children Julie Guich of Las Vegas, NV, Scott (Amber) Guich of Lincoln, IL, and Laura (Matt) Berry of Peoria, IL. Two grandchildren, Ava Guich & Dravin Tierney of Lincoln, IL. Brothers and sisters Cindy (Ron) Schuster of Florida, Kathy (Fred) Bates of Michigan, Susan Heider of Tennessee, Janet (Bob) Kubinski of California, and Bob McCreary of Michigan and several nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Joanne loved swimming in her swimming pool, playing puzzle games on her computer, crochet, spending time with her family, especially her children and granddaughter Ava. She lived life to the fullest and made friends wherever she went. She was the best mom to her children, and she will be dearly missed.  A quote from her sister "We were not only sisters, we were best friends."

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 27, 2020, at Mason-White Funeral Home,  20 Valley Forge Dr. in Washington, IL.
