Jerome "Moose" P. Meismer

Jerome P. “Moose” Meismer, 80, of West Peoria, IL went to his heavenly reward at 12:34 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at his residence.

He was born on April 1, 1942, in Metamora, IL, to Ralph H. and Mary Cecilia (Sutcliffe) Meismer. He married Susan L. Smith on November 23, 1967 in Peoria, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Sue; five children, Charles (Suzanne) Meismer, Kristin (Thomas Sr.) Fahey, Matthew Meismer, Anthony Meismer, and Timothy Meismer; six grandchildren, Sister Fulton Marie Meismer, O.P., Mara Meismer, Peter Meismer, Meredith (Nathan) Colwell, Thomas Fahey, Jr., and George Meismer; one great-granddaughter, Evangeline Colwell; and three siblings, Reverend Paul J. Meismer, Mary “Margie” Barnes, and Kevin (Melanie) Meismer.

Jerome taught in Peoria, IL at St. John’s School, and Bergan High School and was a coach there. Later he taught at Kingman Grade School and Trewyn School where he also became the Assistant Principal.

He is a current member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria. He was previously a long-time member of St. John’s Church and St. Ann’s Church, both in Peoria. Jerome was a member of the St. Jude Council Knights of Columbus where he served as Financial Secretary for over 25 years.

Jerome was an Alderman for the City of West Peoria for a dozen years, Chairman of the Finance Committee, and served on the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. He was a member of the “Sand-Trappers” golf league and several bowling leagues. Jerome was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Breakfast Club and Supper Club. He was currently a member of the Elks Lodge #20.

Above all else Jerome loved God and his family.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1113 West Bradley Avenue, Peoria with Msgr. Brian Brownsey officiating and Rev. Paul Meismer as Concelebrant. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at St. Mark Catholic Church and also one hour prior to his Mass on Thursday at the church.
