James A. Van De Veer, 88, of Metamora, IL passed away at 9:05 pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at his residence. He was born on August 19, 1930 in Peoria, IL to James A. and Julia (Smith) Van De Veer, Sr. He married Patricia Joan Schaumburg on April 16, 1950 in Peoria, IL. She passed away on May 14, 2014.
Surviving are his children Lynne A. (Richard) Baker of Washington, IL, Daniel R. (Marsha) Van De Veer of East Peoria, and Vicki S. (Richard) Murray of Bartonville, IL; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister Joan (Albert) Minner of Metamora; and brother Robert (Jane) Van De Veer of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents.
James was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a retired woodcarver. James a past President of the Peoria Skeet and Trap Club who enjoyed fishing, hunting, painting, reading, and driving his car. He loved woodcarving and owned his own woodcarving shop in Washington and also taught woodcarving classes at Illinois Central College.
Cremation rites have been accorded. No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
