James Bachman Obituary

James Richard Bachman, 76, of Fishers, IN, formerly of Metamora, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in Washington, IL.

He was born on September 23, 1945, in Washington, IL, to Richard and Verna (Reeb) Bachman. He married Glenda in 1963 and together they had four sons.

Surviving are his four sons, Mike (Shannon) Bachman of Montana, Randy (Patti) Bachman of Illinois, Eric (Kyungae) Bachman of Tennessee, and Rodney (Heather) Bachman of Missouri; eight grandchildren, Kayla, Austin, Justin, Jamie, Nastassja, Tasjianna, Haleigh, and Quinten; one great-grandson Auden; sisters, Elaine (Carl) Newcomer of Ohio, Judi (Duane) Carter of North Carolina, and Carol (Tim) Detweiler of Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and Vivian, whom he married in 1998 and passed away in 2009.

James went through the Caterpillar apprenticeship program and worked as a Tool Maker for over 30 years at Caterpillar Inc., until his retirement. He went on to work another 7 years as a Millwright at large power plants. He was working as a driver for Roush Lincoln in Fishers, IN at the time of his death.

James enjoyed working on the family farm in his spare time and tinkering with his 1933 Diesel Fifty Caterpillar tractor crawler. Dad was passionate for rebuilding car motors with his sons and was engaged in their sporting activities. He would also help repair and maintain his grandchildren’s vehicles while supporting their activities with much love and enthusiasm. He was full of joy and laughter while being able to play toy cars and trucks with his great-grandson.

He loved to travel and visit friends, family, and new places across the country, especially out west and always looked forward to celebrating Christmas in Montana. James never missed an opportunity to make a new friend, help someone in need, or try to bring laughter and happiness into each day. In his later years, he volunteered annually at Crazy Head Spring Camp located in Lame Deer, Montana while also attending and serving at Life Church in Fishers, IN.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Stewart Harmony Cemetery in Metamora. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Pastor Tim Detweiler officiating.
