Irene A. VanDeHand, 95, of Metamora, IL passed away at 2:10 am on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Snyder Village in Metamora.
She was born on November 25, 1925 to Ferdinand and Mary (Marchand) Schierer in Metamora, IL. She married Chester M. Jason on October 22, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora. He passed away on October 26, 1978. She then married Francis T. VanDeHand on May 22, 1984 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora. He passed away on December 7, 1998.
Surviving is her sister-in-law, Lillian (Robert) Schierer of Eureka; and twenty-four nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters Helen DuBois, Florence Alig, and Dorothy Schierer, and six brothers Clarence, Isadore, Elmer, Raymond, Robert, and Gilbert Schierer.
Irene worked at the S. S. Kresge Company in Peoria as floor supervisor and head cashier for 15 years. She also worked at the Illinois Prairie District Public Library in Metamora as the District Librarian for branch Interlibrary Loans and on the Bookmobile for 32 years, retiring on August 20, 1991. Irene was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Metamora. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Vien Van Do officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:15 am with a walk by visitation at 9:30 am also at the church on Tuesday. Due to COVID-19, CDC guidelines will be followed and masks are required. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Metamora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Church, 415 West Chatham Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
