Helen R. Fuchs, 99, of Metamora, formerly of Peoria passed away at 5:45pm Friday August 16, 2013 at Snyder Village in Metamora. She was born on March 3, 1914 in Peoria to Thomas and Harriet Palmer Kennedy. She married Bernard D. Fuchs on November 13, 1937 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on July 16, 1982. Her parents, five brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Terry L. (Patty) Fuchs of Metamora, granddaughters Amy Shaheen (Jeffery) Stern, Meredith Shaheen (Jim) Adler, Paige Shaheen (Chris) Harvey all of the Chicago area; seven grandchildren as well as one brother in law John Collyer of Chicago. Helen worked at Block & Kuhl Co., the Peoria Journal Star, YMCA, and retired from the American Red Cross in 1979. She owned and operated B & H Dance Studio for 17 years and enjoyed teaching ballroom dancing with her husband. She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Peoria Women?s 18-hole golf league and the Emblem Club 9 hole golf league. She won the Mt. Hawley Country Club women?s golf championship and also played in tournaments at both city and state levels. Everyone who knew Helen loved and admired her for her strong spirit and spunk. She was of the Catholic Faith. Funeral services will be 10am Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Mason Funeral Home in Metamora with Fr. John Verrier officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5pm until 7pm and also one hour prior to her services on Tuesday all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Brimfield. In lieu of flowers memorials in her name may be given to American Red Cross, Ducks Unlimited or Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois.
