Giles Kent Sorrells

Giles Kent Sorrells, 78, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away at 12:19 pm on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Unity Point Health-Proctor in Peoria, IL.

He was born on August 19, 1943, in Avon, IL, to Vilasco O. and Pauline E. (Mercer) Sorrells. He married Carol L. Trask on June 10, 1967, in Galesburg, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Carol of Germantown Hills; children, Janet (Andrew) Slonneger of Crystal Lake, IL, Katie (Aaron) Williams of Morton, IL, and Andrew Sorrells of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren, Noah McGraw, Alec Slonneger, Madeleine McGraw, Brooke Slonneger, Cameron Slonneger, Kai Slonneger, Simon Williams, and Gianna Williams; and sister, Loretta (Gerald) Peterson of Abingdon, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Giles was a U.S. Army Reserves Veteran, serving from 1964 until 1970. He worked as an engineer for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 36 years prior to his retirement. Giles was awarded eight United States patents in electrical engineering throughout his years at Caterpillar. Giles attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, and was a member of the Metamora American Legion Post 89 and the Genealogy Association. He enjoyed fishing, walking and exercising, photography, any technology in general, and church fellowship.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with Pastor Kerry Frantz officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until service time, also on Monday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded after his service. Burial of Ashes will be in Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg, IL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace Presbyterian Church, 8607 IL-91, Peoria, IL 61615 or to I.E.T.F.
