George Edward “Babe” Schifeling, 92, of Metamora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2021 at 7:45 AM. Babe was born to Leslie and Rose (Steffan) Schifeling on June 28/29, 1929. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Clifford, and nephew, Mark.
Babe married Donna Jeanne Amsler (lovingly known as “Donna Mae”) on November 1, 1952. She survives along with 3 daughters, Julie Schifeling, Ann Herring and Sue (Jeff) Oyer and 3 grandchildren – his pride and joy - Lesley Oyer, Kyle Oyer and Dan Herring. He is also survived by one brother, Larry (Barb) Schifeling, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Babe worked as a bricklayer and was a proud member of the Bricklayers Union since 1947. He loved to fish, garden, watch the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, and any event that involved his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Unity Point-Proctor, 3rd floor, Post Surgical, for their care and compassion during his hospitalization.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
