Frederick L. Fandel, age 82, of Germantown Hills, Illinois passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 4:12 am at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria. He was born on July 25, 1931 in Worth Township, Illinois to Leo C. and Lydia (Kiesewetter) Fandel. He married Marcia Hammond on May 24, 1958 in Washington, Illinois. She died on September 28, 2004. Surviving are two daughters, Lori (Randy) Hino, McMurray, PA and Kelly (Richard) Flavin of Germantown Hills; three grandchildren, Ryan Hino, Rachel Hino and Colin Flavin; two brothers, Jack (Ruth) Fandel of Washington and Donald (Joan) Fandel of Germantown Hills; three sisters, Agnes Parr and Marcella Obery, both of Metamora, and Lulu Suzy (Jack) Hoffman of Germantown Hills; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Austin Fandel and Philip Fandel, and four sisters, Alvena Force, Eileen Miller, Melberta Krumholz and Dolores Harms. Fred graduated from Metamora Township High School. He worked as a bricklayer with Local #3 in Peoria, IL, retiring in 1984. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 89 in Metamora. Fred was a life long member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church and was also very active in their men?s club. Fred cared for the church and always was the first to lend a helping hand. Fred was known for his green thumb and Mr. Fix It abilities. In his later years he enjoyed tinkering in the garage. Family and friends meant a lot to Fred. He will be greatly missed and was a blessing to all who knew him. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, rural Metamora, Illinois with Father Neri Greskoviak officiating. Recitation of the rosary will be at 4:30 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2014 with visitation to follow from 5 pm until 8 pm at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary of Lourdes Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 89. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary of Lourdes Grotto and Grounds Fund, rural Metamora. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
