WASHINGTON...Florence L. Howlett, 84, of Washington, passed away at 10 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2012 surrounded by her family at home. Florence was born on August 22, 1927 in Westerville, Ohio to Carl and Edith Smith Stauch Dawson. She married William "Bill" Howlett on June 18, 1960. Bill survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Linda (Larry) Meier of Pekin, Becky (George) Reyes of El Paso, TX and Angie (Greg) Keil of Washington; one sister, Norma Bethel of Gahanna, OH; one brother, John Hugh Smith Dawson of Chillicothe; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Florence was also preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Stauch. She worked as a secretary for John Hancock Insurance for many years. Florence was a 55 year member of the Daughters of Mokanna and served as Mighty Chosen One in 1958 and was Supreme Mighty Chosen One in 1998. She was also active in Judea White Shrine of Jerusalem in Peoria for over 50 years and during that period served as Worthy High Priestess nine times. Florence also was a member of the Cloverleaf Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in East Peoria. She attended the Sunnyland Christian Church. Florence enjoyed spending time with her family and also would never pass on an opportunity to shop. The ultimate time was shopping with the family. She also enjoyed her grandchildren and attending meetings for the organizations in which she was involved. Visitation for Florence will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 14 at Mason- White Funeral Home with a White Shrine Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15 at the funeral home with Pastor Evan Williams officiating. Entombment will be at American Mausoleum in Peoria. Additional visitation will be on Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral service. Memorials for Florence may be directed to the Humanitarian Foundation Grottos of North America, Northern Tazewell Fire & Rescue or Methodist Hospice.
