Eloise M. Crank, 105, of Peoria, passed away on November 22, 2022, in Peoria.
She was born Dec 4, 1916, near Spring Bay, a daughter of Leo R. and Pearl (Wagner) Meister. She married Lawrence J. Cooling Jan.23, 1942. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1981. She later married Wayne Crank, who also preceded her in death, as well as her parents and two sisters, Madelon Wright and Eileen Voltz.
Eloise is survived by her daughter, Edie (Steve) Brereton of Peoria; her son, Tom (Carolyn) Cooling of Saint Louis, Missouri; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was an executive secretary for the president of Peoria Tent and Awning Co. during WWII, while her husband was deployed with the U.S. Army to fight in North Africa and in Italy. He participated in the battles of Anzio Beach, Monte Casino and the Liberation of Rome. Eloise faithfully sent him letters, chocolate, and bars of soap.
She later worked for seven years as manager of the at Hickory Farms Store on North University Street. She was president of FT. Clark Chapter AARP from 1988 to 1990.She had also served as a Deaconess at Memorial Christian Church, where she was a member.
There will be no public services or visitation. A private interment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Memorial contributions may be made in Eloise’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
