Elaine Renae Mary (Schierer) Pemberton

Elaine Renae Mary (Schierer) Pemberton, 63, of Metamora, IL, passed away peacefully at 2:54 pm on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Carle-Bromenn Medical Center in Normal, IL, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 7, 1957, to Gilbert William and LaVonne Lois (Kerker) Schierer. She married her high school sweetheart, Ralph Louis Gunderson, and together, they raised two sons. She later married Mark Pemberton.

Surviving are her two sons, Jayme (Erin) Gunderson of Metamora and Jason Gunderson of Germantown Hills; three grandchildren, Henry, Charles, and Vivienne Gunderson; two brothers, Stephen (Mary) Schierer and Keith (Diana) Schierer; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister Janice Renae.

Although she lived in Metamora for 45 years, Elaine was a farm girl at heart, growing up on 40 acres west of town where she loved hiking with her Terrier, Skippy. She had numerous cats and was always excited to discover a new litter of kittens in the hayloft.

Elaine was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora. She was a music teacher at various Catholic schools in the area. Her passion was teaching children music. She was a piano instructor in Metamora for 47 years, sometimes teaching several generations of piano students. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend and she will be greatly missed.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Greg Jozefiak officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until service time on Wednesday at the church. Burial of Ashes will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Metamora.
