Edward Ballard, 89, of Bayview Gardens, IL transitioned from this life to his heavenly home at 6:30 pm on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 1, 1931 in McLeansboro, IL to Robert and Hazel (Adams) Ballard. He married Elva Miles on August 1, 1954 and she passed away on July 1, 2006. He married Velva F. Walker on December 8, 2008.
Surviving are his wife, Velva of Bayview Gardens; daughters, Paula (Micheal) Isenberg of Clinton, TN and Kathy Joseph of Bayview Gardens; son, Cary (Nicole) Ballard of Metamora; step-children whom he loved as his own, Rick (Vicky) Rubel, Deb Matheny, Pam Lotz, Kim (Kenny) Thurston, Jeff (Maxine) Rubel, and Kenneth Rubel; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother, Curtis (Karen) Ballard of East Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Eddie Ballard, six brothers, and four sisters.
Edward was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Germany during the Korean War. He was a mechanic with Caterpillar Tractor Company, retiring after 31 years. He then owned and operated Ballard Excavating and Construction for 25 years. Ed loved to travel, building houses, auctions, and spending time with his grandkids. He was a life-time member of the American Legion.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with Reverend Jeff Johnston officiating. Due to COVID-19, CDC guidelines will be followed as well as social distancing and the wearing of masks. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until time of his service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial of Ashes will be in Springbay Cemetery with military honors accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to VITAS Hospice, 5019 North Executive Drive, Peoria, IL 61614.
