Edna Neal

Edna M. Neal, 94, of Washington, died on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Eureka Apostolic Christian Home.

Edna was born on May 18, 1928, in Mulkeytown, IL, the daughter of Leslie and Elnora (Ward) Teel.  She married Russell Neal on August 11, 1969, after the death of his first wife, Violet.  He preceded Edna in death on September 9, 1993.

She is survived by her step-children Carmen Thompson of Wildwood, MO, Janet (John) Helme of Lancaster, CA, and Darrell (Susan) Neal of Washington; 7 step-grand-children and 19 step-great-grand-children.  She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews, all of whom were very close to her. She was preceded in death by step-son-in-law Robert Thompson, 1 step-grandson, her parents, two brothers and their wives, Ward (Marilyn) and Harley (Reba).

Edna taught in grade schools in four states for over 30 years, retiring in 1986.  She also worked as a Church and Community Worker in a Methodist Parish for three years.  Additionally, Edna taught in a mission school for one year.

Edna and Russell volunteered with several organizations before he died: Maple Lawn Meals On Wheels; Roving Volunteers In Christ’s Service in Florida; and McAllen Christian School in Texas.  After Russell died, she volunteered with Peoria Harrison School and OSF Hospital.

Edna gave her heart to Jesus at an early age and served Him throughout her life.  She was a member of the Washington Christian Church where a memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, at 11 am. The Rev. Kevin Dell will officiate.  Visitation will be before the service from 9 am to 10:45 am.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Christopher, IL, at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to her church.
