Donna Hamman Heller, 87, of Washington, IL, passed away at 11:35 am Monday, January 17, 2022.
She was born on September 17, 1934, in Beardstown, IL, the daughter of Harold and Ina Kupfer Hamman. She married Walter Heller on June 12, 1965, in Washington.
Surviving are her husband, three sons Eric (Mary McGowan) Heller of Flatrock, MI; Dorn (Kelly) Heller of Broken Arrow, OK and Brian (Kathleen) Heller of Baraboo, WI. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was a teacher for District 52 for four years and later a substitute teacher for 35 years before retiring.
Donna loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially the young ones, and visiting family. She created beautiful flower gardens with many varieties of irises and enjoyed spending time tending them. Another hobby was raising varieties of birds, primarily chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and guineas; some grew up thinking Donna was their mother.
Many family vacations were spent at Lake Norfork in Arkansas. She was chief boat operator for the water skiers at these extended family gatherings.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, where she taught Sunday School and was the Sunday School Superintendent. For many years she was the church librarian.
Cremation rites have been accorded. On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, a memorial visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour before her service also at the church. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or Fresenius Kidney Care in East Peoria.
