Donald E. Schaidle

Donald E. Schaidle, 83, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away at 12:22 am on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. He was born on November 3, 1937 at home in rural Metamora, IL, to Carl and Clara (Schneider) Schaidle. He married Geraldine A. “Gerri” Peterson on September 3, 1966 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora. She passed away on August 19, 1998.

Surviving are his children, Paul Seppelt of Morton, IL, Valerie (Kevin) Kennedy and Becky (Paul) Mueller both of Germantown Hills; grandchildren, Nicole (Brian) Schieber, Nathan (Toni) Seppelt, Joseph Kennedy, Luke Kennedy, Kathleen Kennedy, Hailey (Gage) Thompson, Hannah Mueller, and Elizabeth Mueller; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Joe Schaidle of Metamora, Hildagard Haedicke of East Peoria, and Walter (Pat) Schaidle of Metamora; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and four brothers.

Don was a U.S. Army Veteran. He worked as a millwright at Caterpillar until his retirement. Don loved working in his garden, giving away his produce to anybody. He was an avid woodworker, making numerous items to give to family and friends, a handyman and a “Mr. Fix-It”. Don loved doting over his grandchildren the most.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora with Father Greg Jozefiak officiating. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in St. Mary of Lourdes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, 8630 State Route 91, Peoria, IL 61615.
