Donald Raymond Hoffer, 95, of East Peoria, IL, passed away at 5:15 am on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Snyder Village in Metamora, IL. He was born on February 15, 1926 in East Peoria, IL to Edward G. and Louise (Ferter) Hoffer. He married Edith Marie Schaer on June 12, 1948 in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Edith of East Peoria; three children, Connie (John) Alexander of East Peoria, Debbie (James) Springer of Metamora, and Dean (Mary) Hoffer of Naperville, IL, seven grandchildren, Melissa Alexander, Lacey Alexander, Joshua (Nikki) Springer, Justin (Kim) Springer, Sara (Justin) Dentino, Andrew Hoffer, and Danielle Hoffer; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Albert Hoffer and Eugene Hoffer, and sister Louise Kohl.
Don was a truck driver and a farmer. He had worked for Hoffer Construction, Hunkler Excavating, Great Plains Gas, Peoria Concrete, and Roanoke Concrete. He was proud of his Allis Chalmers tractors. He was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in East Peoria, the Operating Engineer Local 649, and the Teamster Local 627. Don volunteered and drove Santa Claus for 20+ years for the East Peoria Festival of Lights parade. He had a mischievous laugh and smile. Don was a “strong” German, a man of honor, and a hard working man who loved his family.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at St. Monica’s Catholic Church with Father John Steffen officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until mass time on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Metamora.
