Deryl L. Schertz

Deryl L. Schertz, 96, of Metamora, IL, formerly of Henry, IL passed away at 7:53 pm on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born on May 13, 1920 to Louis A. and Lulu M. (Springer) Schertz. He married Margaret S. Sharp on January 7, 1946 in Eureka, IL. She survives. Also surviving are children Douglas (Laura) Schertz, Suzanne Sharp, Richard (Jeanne) Schertz, Scott (Nathalie) Schertz, and Ann (Sam) Dong; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister LaDoris Davis. He was preceded in death by sister Ruth VanWinkle. Deryl was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. He was an Industrial Arts teacher for 30 years, last teaching at Henry-Senachwine High School in Henry. He was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, American Legion Post 0323 in Henry, Past Rotary in Henry, Woodford County Farm Bureau, Marshall County 4H leader, past member of City of Henry Zoning Board, Henry Home Association, and Henry Mason Lodge #119. He was a member of Henry Christian Church and an Elder Emeritus and attended Christian Union Church in Metamora. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Christian Union Church in Metamora with Pastor Gary Salm officiating. A Masonic service will be held at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the church with visitation following from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Olio Cemetery in Eureka with military rites accorded. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Snyder Village Residence in Need Fund.
