David F. Cheek

David F. Cheek, 82, of Metamora, IL passed away at 9:15 am on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Snyder Village in Metamora.

He was born on January 19, 1941, in Peoria, IL, to Frederick LeRoy and Mary Alice (Pullium) Cheek, Sr. He married Helen M. Jenkins on December 22, 1963 in Delavan, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Helen of Metamora; children, Lisa Cheek of Peoria, Lori (Anthony) Gilroy of Peoria, and Todd Cheek of Pontiac, IL; grandchildren, Wyatt Gilroy, Peyton Cheek, and Trinity Cheek; and sister, Faye Mammen of Delavan. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughters Mackenzie and Hayley Cheek, sister Maye Rodriguez, and brother Fred Cheek, Jr.

David received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Illinois State University and was a teacher for Metamora Grade School for 35 years. At MGS, he implemented Scholastic Bowl and coached several sports. David was a member of Christian Union Church in Metamora and a former president of the Metamora Old Settlers Board. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, fishing, golfing, cooking, and umpired and refereed in the tri-county area. He was a loving grandfather to his grandkids.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Graveside Service for the burial of ashes will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan, IL with Pastor Gary Salm officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Snyder Village Residents in Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
