Daniel "Danny" Fairchild Obituary

Daniel Leslie Fairchild, 89, of Roanoke, IL, passed into the arms of Jesus at 7:33 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke. He was the beloved husband of Judy Fairchild. She passed away on June 12, 2021.

He was born on December 31, 1932, in Canby, MN, to Mark and Annie (Christensen) Fairchild. He married Judy Bellman on March 11, 1987.

Surviving are his three children, Debbie Lindsey of Roanoke, Steve (Danette) Bellman of Secor, and Janet (Mark) Tol of Roanoke; two grandsons, Joshua (Michele) Tol and Jacob (Abbey) Tol; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Bryan) Willey and Victoria (Vlad) Novichenko; three great-grandsons, Noah, Owen, and Eli Willey; four great-granddaughters, Lauren Tol, Ellie Grace Tol, and Mila and Kaia Novichenko; three brothers, Lester (Edythe) Fairchild of Watertown, SD, Henry Fairchild and Edwin Fairchild both of Canby, MN; two sisters, Nina Alfaro of San Angelo, TX and June Pacleb, a missionary to the Phillipines; life-long friend, Jim Mathews of Canby, MN; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Judy, he was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law John Lindsey, two brothers, and two sisters.

Dan was a U.S. Army Veteran, proudly serving from 1953 – 1955. He was a farmer and rancher for over 50 years and had a love for his cattle. He was employed by Charles River Laboratories in Roanoke for 15 years. He participated in rodeos and annual cattle drives in Gary, SD and enjoyed roping. He was a life-time member of the American Legion and a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria.

Daniel received a conservation award in Yellow Medicine County, Canby, Minnesota. He was president of Brandt Prairie Riders. An advocate of the cattle industry, Dan participated in the annual Crystal Springs Rodeo at Clear Lake, SD and also involved in riding in the Grand Entry of the rodeo, proudly displaying the American Flag. He was a member of the American Angus Association, American Simmental Association, American Polled Herford Association, and the Hampshire Swine Association. On Memorial Day, 2017, Dan was honored at Glad Tidings Church with the honorary award of the American Flag.

Dan will be missed by all. He loved his family and his church family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son-in-laws and grandsons.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria with Reverend Paul Hinzman officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service also at the church on Friday. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 pm on Friday at Centennial Cemetery in Secor with military rites accorded by Roanoke American Legion Post 463. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to his church, Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 2201 East Washington Street, East Peoria, IL 61611.
