Connita Rose “Connie” Westerfield, 82, of Creve Coeur, IL, formerly of Washburn, IL, passed away at 3:53 am on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at her residence.
She was born on November 8, 1940, in Mount Erie, IL, to Reuben and Fern (Marks) Whirrell. She married Samuel L. Westerfield on November 7, 1968 in Lowpoint, IL. He passed away on January 13, 1999.
Surviving are her children, Michael Kennell of Creve Coeur and Anna (Michael) Tieman of Lowpoint, IL; step-children, Darren Westerfield and Lisa Lochirco; and grandchildren, David Kennell and Jeremy Tieman. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Laura Kennell, and siblings Delores Riddle and John Whirrell.
Connie was an artist, potter, and craft person. She loved working with children and her favorite project was a flying dragon made by the second grade students in Washburn. She also taught clay classes for many years at the Sun Foundation’s Art & Science in the Woods as well as conducting other workshops in the area. Connie enjoyed being active and played in golf and bowling leagues throughout her lifetime. She was a member of the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in Lowpoint, IL, serving as a Sunday school teacher, church clerk, and deaconess. She also belonged to the Day Spring Native American United Methodist Church in East Peoria, IL. Among the many hymns she enjoyed, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “I’ll Fly Away” were favorites.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Pastor Dr. Jon Byler officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her service. Burial of Ashes will be in Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery in Roanoke, IL.
