Carol Gross Obituary

Carol Ann Gross, 62, of Goodfield, IL passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.  She was born on November 6, 1955 in Decatur, IL, the beloved daughter of Lyle (Roger) and Patricia (Kopp) Altes.  Carol married John Gross on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1975 at the Methodist Church in Downs, IL.  Reverend Fred Belcher and Pastor Joe Diener officiated the ceremony.

Carol spent much of her childhood caring for her sick mother.  She quickly realized her passion for serving others entering the field of nursing and graduating from the Mennonite College of Nursing in 1977.  She began her career working at Eureka Hospital, then as a neo-natal nurse at St. Francis Hospital.  Later, she spent many years as a House Supervisor working at BroMenn Healthcare.  After her years as a House Supervisor she worked as manager of BroMenn Employee Health and manager of Health Point Urgent Care.  Carol loved her job, her co-workers, and caring for her patients.  She worked as a registered nurse for 30 years.

Married for 42 years, Carol was a devoted wife and mother.  John and Carol began raising their five children in Eureka, IL and later moved to Goodfield.  Possessing a true servant’s heart, she faithfully cared for her family.  She found joy in being surrounded by her children and grandchildren especially during the holidays.  Carol enjoyed reading, cooking, listening to music, and playing games with her family and friends.  Her nurturing spirit will be dearly missed.

Carol is survived by her husband, John; children Patricia (Jason) Lehman of Goshen, IN, Katie (Ryan) Worthen of Goodfield, Cynthia Gross of Goshen, IN, Joshua Gross of Akron, CO, and Tim (Autumn) Gross of Moline, IL; five cherished grandchildren Eli, Hannah, Emily, Abigail, and Oliver; brother Lyle (Sheri) Altes of Austin, TX, chosen sister Donna Yoder of Eureka; two nieces; and three nephews.  Carol was preceded in death by her parents and a niece.
