Carla Doty Obituary

Carla Ann Doty, 75, of Metamora, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Her final hours on Earth were blessed as she was surrounded by her family and loved ones who literally sang her into God's eternal presence in true Doty & Belsly style!

She was born March 2, 1948, in Peoria, IL, to Joseph L. & Betty J (Winkler) Belsly. She married the love of her life, Douglas W. Doty, on October 3, 1970. Carla is survived by her husband Doug and their children Jarrod Doty of Metamora, Julie (Garren) King of Eureka, Jackie Doty of Metamora, Jaymie (Matt) Freeman of Metamora, and Jill Doty of Metamora; her 13 grandchildren, Kylee and Cash Doty, Noah, Zach, Annabelle, EllyAna, and Emmitt King, Madeline, AnnaSophia, Beau, Wyatt, Rhett, and Jace Freeman; her sister Val (Carl) Huser of Metamora and her brother, Ken Belsly of California; honorable mention to Merle, Marla, Dixie, and Ragnar her beloved grandpets. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dick Belsly.

Carla grew up on a farm where she learned the value of hard work and the value of staying busy. She graduated from Illinois State University, and while there (a fun fact), she modeled clothing for Bergner's department stores. Upon graduating from ISU, she became a home economics teacher in Mason City from 1969-1973. She then moved back to Metamora, where she and Doug raised their children. She was an avid woodworker, played the piano and organ, and was a huge supporter of their children through their academic, musical, and athletic endeavors.

Later in life, she had her own woodworking business, capitalized on the Beanie Baby craze, and returned to her teaching roots by teaching a women's woodworking class and as a substitute teacher at Metamora High School. When she wasn't busy with these things, she enjoyed lunch with her friends, flipping houses with Doug, sewing clothes for her kids or grandkids, fixing up her children's homes, or tootling around the family compound on her four-wheeler. She was her grandchildren's biggest supporter, attending athletic events, plays, and various activities. She loved hosting sleepovers with the grandchildren, planning birthday parties, traveling, and spending time with her many friends. Carla didn't know a stranger. She met everyone with a smile and could brighten up any room with her curious dialogue and unmistakable laughter. She loved encouraging people to use their talents and to pursue their gifts. Carla was a faithful church attendee and Christ follower. She played the piano and organ, led the youth group, and taught Sunday School in her church.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 am on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Christian Union Church in Metamora. Pastor Gary Salm will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 7 pm on Monday, February 19, 2024, also at the church. Burial will be in Spring Bay Cemetery in Spring Bay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family (checks can be made out to Jill Doty or via Venmo: @Jill-Doty) so they may continue to support the causes and charities Carla was most passionate about.  Mason Funeral Home in Metamora is assisting the family with arrangements.
