Bonnie L. Allen, 73, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of care, education, and service.
She was born on September 6, 1951, in West Plains, MO, the daughter of the late Mearle and Modie L. Friend Evans. She married Timothy P. Allen on August 6, 1972, in Washington.
Surviving are her husband, one son, Corey Sr., of Washington, IL, and three grandchildren, Layla, Corey Jr., and Landon. Also surviving one brother, Sam (Pam) Evans, of Tinley Park, IL.
Bonnie dedicated her life to the well-being of others, first as a compassionate Registered Nurse and instructor at Methodist Medical Center School of Nursing in Peoria for 19 years and later as an inspiring Nursing Professor at Illinois Central College in East Peoria for 12 years. Her commitment to healthcare and education touched the lives of countless individuals, both patients and students.
Bonnie was a woman of many interests, each as engaging as the next. She found joy and relaxation in the intricate art of quilting and cross-stitching, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her meticulous nature and artistic eye. Her diverse range of interests mirrored her vibrant and multifaceted personality.
Bonnie's sense of community was not confined to her professional and spiritual life. She extended it into her volunteer work, becoming an active member of the Woodford County Medical Reserve Corp. Here, she not only contributed her medical expertise but also led as President of the Board of Health, a testament to her leadership and service. She was also a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria where she sang in the choir.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 pm until 7 pm also at the funeral home. Burial will follow her service at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Illinois Cancer Care or the Nursing Program at Illinois Central College.
