Bernadine Whittington Obituary

Bernadine A. Whittington, 95, of Metamora, passed away 7:19pm Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Snyder Village Assisted Living-Memory Care surrounded by her family.

Bernadine was born on December 23, 1922, the daughter of August and Emma (Meismer) Scheirer. She married Delmar E "Red" Whittington on November 27, 1948, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2008. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers Melvin Scheirer, Harold Scheirer, Vernon Scheirer, Vernell Scheirer and 2 sisters Emeline Kennel and Mary Kathryn Kelch.

Surviving are her four sons, Paul (Ellen) Whittington of East Peoria, Dale (Annette) Whittington of Metamora, Mark (Carol) Whittington of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, and Kim (Terri)  Whittington of Metamora.  Also surviving are her 13 grandchildren. Kerra (Tim) McCoskey, Chad (Joy) Whittington, Greg Auten, Chad (Shannon) Auten, Maggie (Marty) McGraw, Grant Whittington, Hannah Whittington, Allison Whittington, Courtney (Brian) McCoy, Abigail Lorenz, Mitchell Whittington, Natasha (Andrew) Schertz, and Erica (Jarrod) Bane; 14 great grandchildren. Patrick & Kaitlyn Auten, Jonah & Evan McCoskey, Lucas & Campbell Whittington, Mason & Dylan McCoy, Dalton, Keaton & Ashton Bane, Kane, Hudsyn & Jennings Schertz; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Bernadine was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 89 in Metamora. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church of Metamora. She was also a member of the St Mary's Altar and Rosary Society of Metamora.

Bernadine was employed at Weidman’s Hardware in Metamora where she worked for 8 years.  She later joined the family team at the Family Fountain Cafe in Metamora and worked there for 15 years.  Bernadine was a long time Woodford County Election Judge.

Family was everything to Bernadine. She was a loving wife, incredible mom, wonderful grandmother and great grandmother. The family would like to thank the staff of both Snyder Village Assisted Living Memory Care and OSF St. Francis Hospice for their exceptional care of Bernadine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora.  Father Vien Van Do will celebrate.  Visitation will be from 9:00am until her time of Service at 10:30am also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Metamora.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to St. Mary’s School or Snyder Village Assisted Living Memory Care.  To share memories and condolences with the family, visit www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
