Zora L. MacDougall, 86, of Washington, gracefully passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Washington Senior Living in Washington, IL. Born in Belfry, KY, she was the daughter of James and Hazel Smith Varney.
Zora found her life partner, Robert MacDougall, whom she married on April 21, 1962; he sadly preceded her in death on May 3, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Clayton and Jay.
Zora leaves behind a legacy of love in her three children: Roberta (Craig) Atkins, Jennifer MacDougall, and Dougall (Jill) MacDougall, along with 9 adoring grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren who will carry her memory forward.
With a passion for education, Zora earned her teaching degree from Pikeville College and dedicated an impressive 50 years to teaching. She also served as the director of a preschool and nursery school, nurturing countless young minds and hearts along the way.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Her family will privately celebrate her life and her remains will be laid to rest at the serene Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY. In honor of her memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association. The Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington has been entrusted with the arrangements.
