Zora Marie Gibson, 92, formerly of Washington, IL passed away at Cumberland Pointe Health Center in W. Lafayette, IN. on Wednesday May, 22, 2024.

She was born on September 5, 1931 in Granite City, IL the daughter of James and Julia Detvoy Stein. She married Olin Gibson of St. James, MO on February 24, 1952 in St. James. He passed away on February 19, 2003. Her parents, three brothers and a half sister also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons James (Rose) Gibson of Bradley, SC, Michael (Dee Ellen) Gibson of W. Lafayette, IN and Philip (Tracie) Gibson of Walton, KY. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Alec, Ashley, Meagan, Aubrey, Ryan, Shunda, and Jarvis along with nine great grandchildren; Avery, Colie, Kenzie, Bexley, Violet, Millie Mae, Brandon, Rosenia, and, Baron Jr.

Zora's career spanned over three decades, during which she served with unwavering commitment and excellence. She was a respected Executive Secretary at the Illinois Department of Transportation in Peoria, (IDOT) where she contributed her skills and knowledge for 31 years and 9 months. Her work ethic and dedication to her role were evident to all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.

In addition to her long-standing service at the Department of Transportation, Zora brought her talents to various other organizations. She worked as a telemarketer for Scrappix in Washington, IL, and offered her expertise to H&R Block Tax Services, Melvin Trucking, and Acme Fast Freight. Her professional journey was marked by a steadfast dedication to each position she held, leaving a legacy of hard work and reliability.

Zora's interests and activities extended far beyond her professional life. She was deeply involved in her community, serving as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 169 in Washington for five years and dedicating another three and a half years on the council. Her leadership and nurturing spirit were instrumental in shaping the lives of many young scouts.

Her commitment to professional development and networking was evident through her membership in several associations. Zora was an active member of the IAPP Marquette Chapter in Peoria and the IAAP Retirees group. She was also part of the ISEA Association in Springfield, IL, and AFSCME 31. Her achievements in the field of executive work were recognized nationally when she was listed in Who's Who in U.S. Executives for 1989, a testament to her exceptional capabilities and influence.

Zora's involvement with the National Organization for Female Executives highlighted her dedication to empowering women in the workplace. She also played a significant role in the Peoria Highway Credit Union, where her financial acumen and advice were highly valued.

Her spirit of service was further exemplified by her volunteer work. Zora devoted her time and energy to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Peoria and supported the Labor Day Telethon, helping to raise awareness and funds for those affected by the disease. Her altruism and generosity were a beacon of hope and support for many.

A faithful member of the Sunnyland Christian Church, Zora's faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her church community benefited greatly from her presence, as she lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and compassion.

Visitation for Zora will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 4 pm until 6 pm at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Saint John's Cemetery in Granite City. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington has been entrusted with arrangements.
