Winifred L. "Wini" Benedict

WASHINGTON - Winifred L. "Wini" Benedict, 76, of Washington, IL passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 3:45 am at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL surrounded by her family. Wini was born on October 30, 1939 in Johnson County, MO to Jacob Emerson and Evalena (Kain) Miller. She married Carl L. Benedict of East Peoria, IL on November 5, 1960 in Lowpoint, IL. Surviving are her husband Carl of Washington, IL; five children Donald Benedict of Lowpoint, IL, Daniel Benedict of Washington, IL, twin daughters Debra (Brian) Shirley of Washington, IL and Diane Benedict of Peoria, IL, and Darlene (Rick) Gutierrez of Washington, IL; one step-daughter Rosemary Gray of Bartonville, IL; six grandchildren; one step-grandson; two great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant sister, Lydia Ellen, and one brother Jay. She was a 1957 graduate of Lowpoint - Washburn High School and received a certificate in accounting from Illinois Central College. Wini devoted most of her time to raising her family. She also worked in retail, retiring from East Peoria Wal-Mart after 20 years of service. Wini had many hobbies and interests including reading, crocheting, and oil painting. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was an avid viewer of the Food Network Channel. Above all, Wini loved and cherished her family and will never be forgotten by those blessed enough to know and love her. Although she is gone from this earth, her bright light will forever shine in all of our hearts. Cremation rights have been accorded. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel in Metamora, IL. A gathering for friends and family will follow immediately after at Taylor Masonic Lodge in Washington, IL for food and fellowship from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
