Willie "Bill" Bennett

WASHINGTON-Willie Ray Bennett, 88, of Washington passed away at 4:15pm Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on September 15, 1927 in Duck Hill, MS the son of Harry "Big Daddy'" and Minnie Dee Shaw. After the passing of Bill's mother, his father then married Bessie "Big Mama" Weeks who helped raise him. Bill married Nadine Ming on April 16, 1949 in Amory, MS. Surviving are his wife and their two daughters Diane (Larry) Schupp and Donna (Dave) Nygaard all of Washington. Also surviving are three grandchildren Dean Ribak, Ginger Light and Jim Nygaard along with 8 great grandchildren. Further surviving are four brothers DeWitt (Lottie) Bennett of Tremont, Bobby (Margarette) Bennett of Anniston, Al, Gene (Sue) Bennett of Amory, MS and Jerry (Betty) Bennett of Groveland, FL along with two sisters Frances Jeffreys and Millie Manlove both of Texas. One grandson Michael Nygaard, one brother Paul and his parents and stepmother preceded him in death. Bill was an honorably discharged U.S. Navy Veteran. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 32 years before his retirement in 1982 as a research mechanic. Bill was an easygoing gentleman who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with the love of his life of 67 years and best friend Nadine. He also enjoyed his family whether it be work or play and will be missed dearly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to OSF Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11am Monday, June 20, 2016 at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Michael McCoskey officiating. Visitation will be one-hour prior to his service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
