William J. Sexton

William J. Sexton, 84, of East Peoria, IL passed away at 5:26 pm on Friday, January 14, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born on January 2, 1938, in West Middlesex, PA, the son of Stewart and Helen Goodge Sexton. He married Judy Martin on September 6, 1999, in Groveland, FL.

Surviving are his wife, Judy of East Peoria; one son, James Sexton of Hawthorne, FL; and one daughter, Cathy (Pete) Gaughan of Concord, CA. Also surviving are one stepdaughter, Jennifer Harper (Raymond Smoot); one stepson, Jason Wilkerson; eight grandchildren (Christina, April, Jamie, Sally Ann, Peter, Jessica, Erica, and Joshua); and nine great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann Drummond, his parents, and his two sisters, Martha McCorkle and Dorothy Sexton.

Bill's number one goal always was to serve the Lord. He loved to read and teach, especially to teach the Word; he spent many hours studying the Bible with his good friends Wayne and Kevin Carney.

He was an honorably discharged U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Bill's beloved pastor and friend Josh Monda will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service, also at the funeral home. Cremation will follow his service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill's name may be given to the family to be given to a charity of their choice.
