William "Bill" M. Schell, 76, of Washington, IL, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on January 6, 1949, in Peoria, the son of William J. and Dorothy Duley Schell. He married Sally Wolstenholm. He later married Victoria Riker Wall on August 7, 1999, in Noshua, IA.
Surviving are his wife, one son, Matthew (Elvie) Schell of Bartonville, IL, and Caitlin (Zack) Woods of Washington; one step son, Rob (Angela) Wall of Iowa City, IA, and one step daughter, Valerie (Alex) Wolfe of Mahomet. Also surviving are his mother Dorothy L. Schell of Pekin, IL; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Surviving are two brothers, John (Cheryl "Sheb") Schell of Hanna City, IL, and Bob (Mary) Schell of Cedar Rapids, IA; one sister, Debra (Mike) Baldwin of Hanna City, IL; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Schell of Canton, IL. His father, one brother, Kevin, and one grandson, Asher Wolfe, all preceded him in death.
Bill was the proud owner-operator of Schell Systems, Inc. in Washington, Illinois, where he dedicated an impressive 51 years of his life. An active force in his community, he even ran for Mayor of Washington in 2001, demonstrating his commitment to public service. Bill was a past member of the Washington Rotary Club, and he held a deep passion for the rich history of Washington, Illinois.
His philanthropic spirit shone brightly as he supported both the Boys and Girls Club and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In 2003, he took an integral role on the St. Jude committee for the golf outing at Mt. Hawley Golf Club, channeling his energy into meaningful causes. Furthermore, Bill enthusiastically participated in the business tent at the Washington Cherry Festival, further connecting with his community and fostering local camaraderie. His legacy of civic engagement and dedication to those around him will not be forgotten.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 6 pm on Thursday, August 14, 2025, also at the funeral home. A private family burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
